Summer Interpreter Position – EcoCentre

Every Summer we seek to employ a student as an interpreter/environmental educator for the Salmon EcoCentre, Quadra Island. The EcoCentre provides a variety of educational displays and interactive activities focused on salmon and the healthy watersheds necessary for their survival.

This contract position is for 8 weeks, early July through August, for 30 hours per week (5 days/week, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm) at $13.50 per hour. No experience is necessary as training and supervision will be provided. Applicants are however required to fulfill the following criteria:

- Should be a creative and enthusiastic communicator, with a strong interest in natural history and conservation. Preferably should have local knowledge of Quadra and/or the Discovery Islands.

- Be comfortable and motivated when working alone in a rural setting.

- Be willing to take on a range of tasks in support of maintaining and developing the EcoCentre and educational programming.

- Have a reliable form of transportation (the EcoCentre is approximately 6km from Heriot Bay).

- Must be able to work weekends.

As this position is HRDC funded, applicants must be between 15 and 30, registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year, and be returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
